Re-Governing: Rethinking Urban Dynamics from Bornean Settlements

International Urban Studies Workshop

Introduction
This project is a socially engaged international urban studies workshop in which students, researchers, and artists from Japan and Indonesia collaborate in the river city of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, as the central field site. Under the theme “Re-Governing / Opening the City,” the workshop reconsiders the city not only as an administrative system, yet it seeks to read the cities of Banjarmasin and Banjarbaru through people’s everyday practices, local knowledge, faith, environmental adaptation, and networks of care and mutual support. These processes will be visualized and shared through public forms of expression such as video, art-making, and bodily performance, created collaboratively by students and local participants.

This socially engaged international urban studies workshop is conducted in collaboration with the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM-FISIP), Akita University of Art (AUA), relevant departments of Banjarmasin City and Banjarbaru City.
